This is the capital city of Madre de Dios department. Where the high jungle and low jungle areas meet. This is the entrance of an alive jungle, a perfect place of ecotourism activities.

THE MANU BIOSPHERE RESERVE:
The main routes to get Manu depart from Cusco, first, an eight-to-twelve hour road trip to Atalaya or Shintuya bases and then a trip down the river. It is of the biggest tropical areas on the planet, at Manu you can expect to see different endanger. There are more than 800 bird species; there are different species of mammals and 2000 species of plants. And fortunately this large tract of virgin jungle. At present there 30 quechua speaking communities.
It’s carefully protected. The reserve has three areas, the national park a restricted area, the cultural zone, where there are villages and bases; and the reserved area, open to tourists and research activities.
We recommend that you arrange your tour in advance and come to Manu between May and August.
THE BAHUAJA - SONENE NATIONAL PARK (TAMBOPATA – HEALTH):
Is a conservation unit situated in Tambopata province, after a 5 hours trip by the Tambopata river and one day by the Madre de Dios river.
The park houses an extraordinary biodiversity of wild flora and fauna species. 40 km from Puerto Maldonado and after a 3 hour trip by the Tambopata river one can get to the Tambopata – Candamo reserved zone.
